This Amazing Blueberry-Banana Smoothie Bowl is addictive, delicious and nutrient-dense. I start to crave this halfway through my workouts. It tastes so much better than it sounds like it tastes—I wanna make out with it.
1/2cupplant milkoat, almond or whatever you are into; vanilla or original; sweetened or unsweetened
2scoopsvegan protein powderIt depends on your protein powder, a serving will typically range from 80 - 160 calories & 14 - 21 grams of protein; Chocolate & Vanilla flavors are both great in this. Recently Moon Juice switched to one scoop as a serving on their packaging, use 2 scoops if using Moon Juice. See notes below for protein powders I've tried.
A dash or somaple syrup or a pitted Medjool dateoptional, to taste; taste before adding, especially if your protein powder or plant milk is sweetened. I don't usually add sweetness with the chocolate protein powders.
Add all Smoothie Bowl ingredients to your blender or food processor. Blend, scraping down with a rubber spatula if needed, until smooth. Taste and add a maple syrup or a pitted date if you would like it sweeter.
Add toppings or serve as is. This can be a big bowl or divided into more bowls.

Smoothie vs Smoothie Bowl?
A Smoothie Bowl isn't simply a smoothie in a bowl. Mainly because a smoothie bowl is too thick to drink with a straw, like you could a smoothie. A smoothie bowl is like soft-serve ice cream that you eat with a spoon—and it has lots of surface area to put toppings, if you wanna go there.
Flaxseed Meal
Flaxseed meal & ground flaxseed are the same thing. I store my flaxseed meal & my whole flaxseeds in the freezer to keep them fresh. Flax products can go rancid if stored at room temp for too long. You can also grind your own whole flaxseed into flaxseed meal.
Booberries
Blueberries, especially wild blueberries, are crazy good for you. They help your brain work better, are full of antioxidants, aid with weight loss, and come with many other health benefits. More on this here, from Dr. Greger.
How to freeze your Bananas
I like to let the bananas get really ripe (brown) before I peel & freeze them. According to one of Linda McCartney's cookbooks, you shouldn't even think about eating a banana if it's still green anywhere on the peel. The riper a banana gets the sweeter and more conducive to making an amazing smoothie bowl it becomes. This is also true for making Decadent High-Altitude Vegan Banana Bread. You can ripen your bananas in the oven if you don't want to wait for your bananas to ripen on their own.For smoothie bowls, I peel and then freeze the bananas in a big freezer bag. When freezing nanners for banana bread, I freeze bananas that have turned dark brown/black in the peel and then thaw a little and peel them before making banana bread.
Vegan Protein Powders
Finding a a protein powder that has a flavor, texture and sweetness level you enjoy is the key to a delicious smoothie bowl.I've used vanilla & chocolate protein powders in this and it's fantastic with either. If you have a vegan protein powder you already like, I suspect that it will be very tasty in this regardless of its flavor.
I've used & been pleased with the following Vegan Protein Powders
Sometimes protein powders can have intense & undesirable flavors or odd aftertastes. Sometimes it's the ones with too much stevia or sweetener that I find the most off-putting. If you don't love the protein powder you have, keep trying! There are many great vegan options available.www.planttestkitchen.com
