I love my mom’s Apple Crisp! It was effortless to convert her recipe into Easy Vegan Apple Crisp. This recipe is low ingredient, decadent, and smells divine while it’s baking.
Do you like apples?

I recommend using tart or a mix of tart and non-tart apples. I’ve made this with many different kinds of apples and it’s always fabulous. It’s also a great way to use up apples that haven’t gone bad, but aren’t super fresh.
This time I am a using a mix of Granny Smiths and Red Delicious. You can peel the apples or not peel the apples. I always peel them. If you are making this for kids, you should totally peel the apples.
4 – 5 Apples
For this recipe you’ll need 4 – 5 apples to get around 4 cups sliced apples. If you have very large apples, 3 apples might work.

Apple Prep
I peel the apples and cut them into large pieces, cutting around the core, then I cut off any seeds or hard bits. Then I slice into ~1/4 inch thick slices and cut the slices in half.
If you have an apple corer you can use it to core the apples before slicing.
Earth Balance
To make this vegan, I use Earth Balance. It’s my favorite vegan butter. It tastes just like butter. It’s also gluten-free. You can use softened or melted
Earth Balance, it will be great either way. I have done it both ways.
Sugar
Some sugars are processed using bone char and therefore not considered vegan. To confirm that your sugar is vegan, look for the ”V” logo that reads vegan on the packaging.
Sometimes stores carry vegan cane sugar, but not vegan brown sugar. You can make your own brown sugar with vegan cane sugar, molasses, and an electric mixer using this method.
You can use either light brown or dark brown sugar for this recipe.
Gluten-free
Oats are normally gluten-free, but you may want to buy gluten-free labeled oats if you or any of your eaters need to avoid gluten cross-contamination.
For the flour, use a 1-to-1 gluten-free flour in place of the AP flour.
Oats
Quick oats or rolled oats work great for this recipe.
A la mode?
I usually enjoy it with a glass of vanilla plant milk or vegan vanilla ice cream. I love serving hot apple crisp with cold ice cream.
If vanilla is too vanilla for you, you could try serving with vegan snickerdoodle ice cream or one of those salted caramel vegan ice creams. Apple plays well with many flavors.
